dscf3582Oh my goodness, look at my babies! I can’t believe how big they’re getting – Thomas is 7 months old, has his two bottom teeth, can flip-flop and roll over like a fish out of water, is starting to scoot on his belly and can now sit up. Unless it’s naptime, he is almost always happy and giggles and “talks” all day long.

My little Sophia Marie is 2 years and 5 months old. She loves playing outside, running with her kitty (who she named “meow”), putting all of her baby dolls to sleep (it’s so cute, she turns on the sound machine, gives them kisses and shuts the door saying “alright, night-night”) and right now, she likes to get into absolutely everything: dirt, the DVD baskets, her drawers of clothes, mommy’s makeup, the cleaning cabinet, Bubby (Thomas)’s drawers of clothes… everything! The last few days have been some of the hardest we’ve ever had, but somehow, at the same time they’ve been fun as well. God is so faithful to convict me when I’m angry, give me patience hour by hour – or sometimes minute by minute!

Yet, in the middle of it all, God gives us moments like the above picture when Sophie sits down and puts her arms around her Bubby… I love them so much.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…

Do Laundry – check

Clean bathrooms – check

Make bread/babyfood – check

Vacuum – check

Dust – ugh, still to do

A new week, with a new to-do list, new toys to put away, babies with new attitudes and new training opportunities… funny, it doesn’t sound so overwhelming when I say it that way… :) Yes, there is alot to do, but with God’s strength, we can do it all. I’ve never been one for new year resolutions, but with the new year coming up God is very faithful to remind me that His mercies are fresh and new EVERY morning – I’m so grateful for the hope we have in our Savior!

We did have a WONDERFUL Christmas, though… we had a blast with our families and cannot believe all the amazing loot we got :) Sophie and Thomas did so well with all the craziness and it honestly could not have gone any better. But it was over WAY too soon and we’re already looking forward to next year :)

Merry Christmas!

We are so ready for Christmas around here! Each day, I tell Sophie that Christmas is only a few days away and she says “Yes!” in an excited whisper… not that she really knows what it is, but her reaction to our excitement is really cute. But yes, we’re ready! I’m going to the store tomorrow to get the last couple things we need and food items for our Christmas Celebrations with our families, but other than that, all our presents are wrapped – we have two more on their way and due to arrive this weekend, after that – we’re DONE! I’ve never been finished EVERYTHING this early, but since our celebrations start on Tuesday the 23rd at Christopher and Praise’s house, it’s coming up really fast!

Other than that we’re keeping busy… the kids are crazy. Thomas is starting to scoot already! He grabs the carpet with his pudgy little hands, gets his knees underneath him and pulls… it’s so cute. He can’t go fast at all, but if he sees something he wants, he’ll slowly scoot across to get it. Which, of course, means Sophie has already started with the “No, Bubby” ’s… poor kid, he’s gonna be hearing that for the rest of his life!

While we’re eagerly anticipating celebrating the birth of our Savior with our family next week, we hope  that you (anyone who’s reading this, that is) and your family are also enjoying this season that God has blessed us with!

Cookies and Climbing at Grammy’s house

Last weekend Chris was off so we took a little trip to visit my mom and the boys! We didn’t have anything to do, so we spent time relaxing, baking cookies, watching Miracle on 34th Street, climbing trees outside and playing games of Catan. We had so much fun! I loved getting some of my Christmas baking out of the way and this year, Sophie was old enough to “help”… she unwrapped the hershey kisses for the “peanut blossoms” and helped cut out the sugar cookies and would say “oh, preeeeeeeetty” when they were all decorated. I can’t believe how big she is getting!

A week of Celebrations

What a fun week! It all started with Chris’ 25th birthday on Monday the 24th. God really blessed our day together – we let Daddy sleep in and woke him up with cinnamon rolls, coffee, cards (Sophie drew Daddy a birthday card ALL by herself) and presents. Then we spent the morning at home baking, making juice and playing, then we went out and let Sophie and Thomas pick out their new Christmas ornaments; surprisingly, Thomas was very opinionated and picked out a cute, pudgy little snowman – very appropriate! We ended the night with our first family movie night; we put Thomas to bed (he’s a little too young for movie night), ate dinner on a blanket on the floor and watched Wall-E. Sophie did really well and love the movie… well, about half of it. She lost interest after that :) It was so fun.

Then, on Tuesday, with the help of Chris’ parents and my mom, we pulled off a surprise party “Things from 1983″ party for Chris! He was TOTALLY surprised and we had so much fun eating, talking and singing karaoke with our friends.

Next, it was Thanksgiving! The kids actually let us sleep in until 8:30! Something to be VERY thankful for :) We spent the morning watching the parade, making muffins and apple pie and getting ready to visit with our families. It was a busy, tiring day, but so good. And if that wasn’t enough, Friday morning Chris and I got up and went out shopping at 5:30 a.m.! We left the kids with my mom (we spent the night there with Mandy and Jason) and got a few hours of shopping in and got some REALLY good deals. We visited at Mom’s for the rest of the day and then came back over to Orlando and went out and got our Christmas tree with Chris’ folks. Whew! I’m tired just typing all that… today is a lazy Saturday, stay in our jammies and watch Christmas movies kind of day. And tonight we’re decorating the tree! Oh, I love this Thanksgiving, Christmas season and am so looking forward to spending some intentional time with Sophie doing crafts and teaching her about Jesus’ Birthday!

I knew it was coming…

My husband is a daring, adventurous, spontaneous, exciting guy… everything that I’m not, basically :) And, as such, he is teaching our children to be daring and adventurous. One of the early ways of implementing these qualities in our children is by playing games like “body-slam” and “wrestle-mania”… so far, he’s been pretty gentle with Thomas, but I knew that one day soon… it would happen. Last week Chris decided that our little Bubby, at 6 months and 20 lbs, was sturdy enough for this…

He didn’t get much air, but you can clearly see that, like Sophie, Thomas is going to love playing with his crazy Daddy!

A week of firsts…

The first time this year that it has felt like Fall (yay!)

The first time Thomas played in his new saucer (he loved it!)

The first time Sophie played outside all by herself for an hour (Most of the time she walked around saying “eee, gucky” – translation “eww, yucky”, but hey, she was out there!)

The first Peppermint Mocha of the Christmas season… :)

The first trip to the kids new pediatrician where we were told that no one in the US weighs more than my son (he’s just above the 100th percentile!)

The first time Thomas ate solid food – he loved it, big surprise! After the first few bites, he actually started laughing when he saw the spoon coming his way. It was so funny! We got a little bit of it on video, but I’m having trouble posting it, oh well.

The first time Sophie has seemed like a BIG girl and not my BABY girl – she’s been talking so much lately, and her new favorite phrase is “Silly Daddy (or Mommy or Bubby)” the funniest thing is that she uses in it the right context – for instance, Chris dropped something in the kitchen the other day and Sophie looks at me and goes “Silly Daddy”… :)

So much has happened this week; I know most of it seems uneventful, but to me it’s been a week full of new things and I feel like I’m seeing my family grow right before my eyes! This week I’ve also been freshly aware of my need for a Savior who calls me each and every day to lay my life down for His kingdom, for His glory – whether it’s changing the 3rd poopy diaper of the day, or reaching out to our neighbors who just had a new baby boy or reading Sophie a story in her “Jesus Storybook Bible”, I desire for God to lead us and show us HIS agenda and will for our day, rather than looking to my own to do list. By God’s grace and in His strength, one day at a time, we seek to honor the One who gave His life so that we might live.

Oh and did I mention that I love my amazing, patient, servant-hearted, handsome husband? Yeah, I do. Alot.

My little butterfly…

Tonight, Sophie is at her very first Fall Festival with Papa, Kaykay and Uncle JJ. Today while we were out shopping, KayKay found an adorable little butterfly costume that was perfect for Sophie! So I dressed her up and they took her out to one of the nearby churches Festival’s. Sophie was so excited! I can’t wait to hear how it went and am sure I’m going to have a tired, sticky (from all the cotton candy Uncle JJ promised to share with her) little butterfly later on this evening…  isn’t she too cute?

Thank you, Papa, KayKay and Uncle JJ!!

Fun fall/autumn foods…

Fall is in the air, can you feel it?! Oh my goodness, I’m loving this weather! I know the rest of the world laughs at us Floridians when we pull out the sweaters and blazers the second the temperature drops below 72, but we’ve got to make use of this weather as much as possible… it doesn’t stick around long enough! We had the windows open all day yesterday and this morning the kids and I took an early walk while it was still chilly just so I could put them in their cute little sweats and sweaters! I love it :)

And, while the weather might not stick around for very long, I’d love to start cooking some fun, fall foods, so if anyone is out there reading this, I’d love if you’d take a minute and let me know what autumn dishes your families enjoy this time of year! I’m ready for some new ideas!

Carlye and Sophie and Thomas, OH MY!

First off, I have to start by saying that, Praise, you are an amazing women. You have three kids, yet somehow still manage to get dressed each day. Your house isn’t in a constant state of disarray, you look as though you shower on a regular basis, your kids smell pretty good to and you don’t have peanut butter and yogurt all over the floor of your kitchen… yes, you are the mother that I someday hope to be!

Yes, we have the privilege of having Carlye Grace stay here over the weekend while her folks are at Celebration North! It really has been alot of fun and we’ve been very busy! It’s fun watching them learn to play together and several times I’ve walked into the guest bedroom where Carlye’s sleeping and found them giggling together as they unpack, pack and re-unpack Carlye’s bag. It’s brought us a brand new opportunity for training too… Carlye taught Sophie to say “No!” Now, Sophie has said “no” before in answer to a question, in a cute, little sing-songy voice, but never in disobedience. So that’s been fun, thanks Chris and Praise :)

Seriously though, we are LOVING having her here and enjoying seeing the beginnings of the girls’ relationship as cousins… on Friday Chris was off and we took them to the park to expend some energy. Here are some pictures from our exciting trip!
